What is the Link to Lawyer feature? How does it work?

Sharing resources with your support staff has never been easier!  Because Texas Bar Practice licenses cover one attorney and up to three support staff members, we have developed a feature that allows you to share materials without sharing your login information. Link to Lawyer was developed to help lawyers connect their libraries with up to three legal assistants in an easy, secure way.   Note: The Link to Lawyer feature only works with lawyer and legal assistant accounts. How do the Fastcase links work in digital downloads and Online manuals?

The citations in the digital downloads and the Online manuals link to Fastcase, a free Texas Bar Membership benefit. To use this benefit from your digital downloads or Online manuals: Click on the citation link in your manual. The first time you do so, you will be asked to sign into your TexasBarCLE.com account with your Bar Card number. Once you verify and agree, the manual will automatically redirect to the Fastcase website. Once this sign-in process is done, you will be connected directly to Fastcase when using the manual links going forward. You will be asked to sign in to TexasBarCLE.com again when you use your manual in a new browser or device, or as your cookies expire.

Here is an overview of the features included in Texas Bar Books Online manuals and how you can use them to practice well. Access Your Manual To access your Texas Bar Books Online manual, log in to your Texas Bar Practice account, go to My Account, find your manual under “Subscriptions,” and click “Go to Product.” For help with this step, see How Do I Access My Online Manual? Home Page The Online manual’s home page has several options for opening and using the manual. Start by searching for topics or specific phrases. Start by opening the manual at Chapter 1. Start by opening your list of saved bookmarks. You’ll also find other helpful and informative links here. Practice Notes To use the practice notes, select the chapter on the left. You can click chapter titles to expand the topic groupings under that chapter. In the center panel you can scroll or click to navigate to the section and form titles. Text for your selected chapter, grouping, and section will appear in the main window. What if nothing seems to download or install on my computer?

What should download? Online manuals: Although accessing the content of the Online manuals doesn’t require downloading any files to your computer, using their Word, PDF, and Excel forms in your practice does require downloading the desired individual forms in those formats. To download a form, click the Word, PDF, or Excel icon in the upper right-hand part of the desired form’s web page. Digital downloads: The digital downloads must be downloaded after purchase and accessed on your local computer afterward. See how to download them here. Texas Bar Books toolbar: Using the toolbar to more easily modify the Online manuals’ and digital downloads’ Word forms requires downloading the toolbar and installing it on your local computer, if you haven’t already installed the toolbar for a different product. How do I download the digital version of my manual?

Go to My Account To download the digital version of a manual, first go to My Account. Click “Download” On your My Library page, under “Downloadables,” click the “Download” button that corresponds with the product. Extract zip file contents The product will download packaged in a zip file. To access all of the features of the digital download, you should extract the contents of that zip file (see how here). Move the digital download where you want After extracting the contents of the zip file, you may copy or move the digital download’s product-named parent folder (for example, “Texas Collections Manual 2020”) and all of its contents to the desired location on your computer. The folder hierarchy and folder and file names within that parent folder, however, should not be altered, or cross-document links and other advanced features of the digital download could stop working. The Texas Bar Books toolbar Many digital downloads include Word forms designed to use the Texas Bar Books toolbar. These digital downloads will include a “Navigational Toolbar” subfolder inside the product’s “Forms” folder (for example, at C:\Texas Collections Manual 2020\Forms\Navigational Toolbar\). What forms are included in the manual?

The Online manuals contain all of the content of the printed books as web pages accessible via any Internet browser on any device able to access the Internet, and the digital downloads contain all of the books’ content in PDF. This content includes all of the books’ forms in both cases. Forms in Word, Excel, and PDF Online manuals and most digital downloads also include State Bar of Texas–copyrighted forms from the books as downloadable, editable text files in MS Word and, in some cases, Excel. Some products also include the full text of selected CLE articles from the TexasBarCLE Online Library or forms available from state and federal agencies as individual PDF files. Digital downloads of the Texas Pattern Jury Charges series (both civil and criminal) contain charge language/instruction files in Word. Texas Bar Books toolbar Although all of the products’ Word files are compatible with both Word on Windows and Word for Macintosh, the Texas Bar Books toolbar is specifically designed for use with Word on Windows systems only. Instructional language is included in the Word forms as hidden text. Be aware that this language will be included in your completed forms unless you specifically delete it.
