Houston-based attorney David M. Gunn was recently appointed to the First District Court of Appeals, Place 4, by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Gunn's term is set to expire on December 31, 2026, or until his successor is elected.

Gunn, who is board-certified in appellate law and has practiced law for over 35 years, is a member of the State Bar of Texas and a dedicated volunteer with the Texas Pattern Jury Charges — Business Committee. Gunn has offered his knowledge and expertise to make the Texas Pattern Jury Charges—Business, Consumer, Insurance & Employment volume the best it can be. Gunn has been an active and valued member since joining the committee in 2019. Specifically he has worked on updates addressing proximate cause and trade customs and is currently working on updates addressing broad-form issues.

Gunn is known by his peers as one of the state's foremost appellate lawyers and for his "deep passion for the law." He argued his first appeal in 1990. Since then, he has worked on briefs in hundreds of appeals, orally arguing many of them, including arguing more than 25 times in the Texas Supreme Court.
